Board OKs William Paterson partnership, approves $12,000 Professor in Residence program

The Woodland Park Board approved an agreement on April 14 to partner with William Paterson University for a Professor in Residence program for the 2025-26 school year at a cost of $12,000. The memorandum of understanding authorizes the district to host a retired William Paterson professor who will visit district schools to mentor early-career teachers and provide classroom strategy support.
During public comment, Mike Sica asked what a Professor in Residence is and what they do. Superintendent Michele Pillari described the arrangement: "we work in conjunction with William Paterson University, who provides a retired professor, who comes to our schools once or twice a week, to work with the younger teachers to help them with classroom strategies, lesson plans, etc." The board motion to approve the agreement (225-319) passed by roll call (7 YES).
District documents list the program cost and indicate the partnership will run for the 2025-26 school year; the board did not discuss expanded scope or a multi-year commitment at the open meeting.
