The Kearney Board of Aldermen approved an ordinance authorizing a right-of-way use agreement with United Fiber LLC to extend fiber service across much of the city. Community Development Director David Pavlovich described the project area as primarily north of Highway 92 and said the company intends to extend service toward central Kearney; he introduced company representatives including Joe Hageman.
David Pavlovich summarized the proposal: "United Fiber, proposes to utilize our right way, extend fiber services throughout a lot of Kearney." Company representatives said they maintain local offices and will door-hang notice tags before construction and provide a local phone number for restoration issues; they estimated an initial presence in town within about 120 days and said the overall project could take roughly 180 days. The company also described a warranty/service period for restoration work (discussed as about 24 months).
Board members asked whether the new work would duplicate existing providers; staff and the company said another provider (Intercept Fiber) covers other corridors and some overlap is expected. After questions about restoration, scheduling and local contact procedures, the board approved the ordinance on second reading with a unanimous vote and the mayor welcomed the company to Kearney.
Why it matters: The right-of-way agreement clears a regulatory step for a private broadband expansion; the work could expand access to high-speed fiber in northern and central Kearney neighborhoods and has near-term construction timelines and restoration obligations for the contractor.
