Kearney wins $10,000 for rapid-flash pedestrian beacons on Meadowbrook trail

Public Works Director Shelley Daniel told the board, "On our request, we were awarded $10,000 to go towards, rapid flash beacons," and said the beacons are planned for installation where the Meadowbrook trail crosses the roadway.
The ordinance passed both first and second readings and the board voted unanimously to adopt the agreement. Staff said the grant funds will be used to supplement existing beacon locations and that installation locations were tentatively identified for Meadowbrook. The board did not request additional changes; the measure moved forward as billed.
Why it matters: The city will use state program funds to improve pedestrian safety at a trail crossing, a targeted capital investment that may reduce risks for trail users and nearby school or neighborhood traffic.
