The Whitehall School District board approved the 2025–26 academic calendar and a modest adjustment to daily start and end times during a brief meeting conducted over Zoom.
The presiding officer presented two calendar options — one aligned with the MEA schedule and a non‑MEA alternative contingent on legislative action — and said both end in the last week of May. “This is so that we can reduce days by increasing the amount of instructional time in the day,” the presiding officer said, adding that the district will return to a seven‑period day under the proposed schedule. The proposal sets instructional hours from 7:55 a.m. to 3:59 p.m.
A board member moved to approve the calendar and the board took a voice vote. During discussion, one member said longer school days can be difficult for younger children and signaled they would vote against the change. After the voice vote the presiding officer announced the motion passed. The board did not record a roll‑call tally in the transcript; the presiding officer noted at least one no vote.
The board had invited comment on non‑agenda items at the start of the meeting; none were offered. The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn.
