Troup County interns find Gen X wants evenings, drop-in activities at Active Life Centers

Dan Wooten introduced findings from an ACCG-funded internship on Generation X participation in Troup County’s Active Life Centers and turned the floor over to intern Denisha Williams, who summarized her research methods and recommendations. Williams said her work included visits to three county active life centers (LaGrange, Hogansville, West Point), regional surveys, focus groups and 105 survey responses. She recommended more weekend and evening programs, more “drop in, drop out” activities, outdoor options, workshops and increased use of Instagram and Facebook to reach Gen X.

"I believe that more Gen Xers will be more keen on joining the active life centers if they have more weekend or evening programming because Gen Xers are very busy," Williams said. Wooten and Williams emphasized the presentation is an initial summary and that staff will continue adapting programming to attract members approaching eligibility at age 55. Commissioners asked about the most popular current activities (pickleball and fish fries were mentioned) and were given a written summary included in their packet.
