Massapequa Park board schedules Feb. 24 public hearing on proposal to exceed tax-levy limit

Trustee Tina Schiaffino moved the resolution (17192-2025), Trustee Todd A. Svec seconded, and the motion passed on a roll-call vote with Mayor Daniel M. Pearl and Trustees Dana M. Durso, Tina Schiaffino, Todd A. Svec and Christine M. Wiss voting AYE. The hearing is scheduled for Feb. 24, 2025 at 7:00 PM in Village Hall, 151 Front Street, Massapequa Park.
The resolution authorizes staff to publish notice of the hearing so residents can comment on whether the village should adopt a local law that would allow a tax levy above the state-defined limit when adopting the 2025 budget. No budget figures or proposed levy amounts were included in the resolution; the advertisement is for the hearing only. The next formal step before any change in the tax levy would be the public hearing and any subsequent board action after hearing public comment.
