Royse City ISD honors students and staff for regional and state achievements

The Royse City ISD Board of Trustees on March 10 recognized student and staff accomplishments across athletics, performing arts and district operations.
Trustees honored Royse City High School cheer teams that participated in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and placed at regional and national competitions: small varsity cheer finished second at Regionals and sixth at NCA High School Nationals, while the Game Day Rally team won first at Regionals and second at High School Nationals. The board also introduced the RCHS drum majors and recognized the high school band "for their many accomplishments this year."
Student Zadyn Smith was singled out for selection to the TMEA All-State Tenor Bass Choir in San Antonio. The board additionally recognized student-athletes from cross country, football and volleyball who earned Academic All-State honors.
Board members used the recognitions to praise both coaches and students. Trustee Bobby Summers said the district's athletes and performers "not only do well on the playing field but in the classroom," and called them "some really talented kids." Superintendent Dr. Anderson highlighted a district incentive program at Ruth Cherry Elementary called The Gold Standard.
The board also recognized district staff: Byron Bryant, CFO, was acknowledged for being elected vice-president of the Texas Association of School Business Officials (TASBO). Mike Anderson said Bryant has been the district "MVP," thanking him for leadership during a period of transition.
The recognitions occurred early in the meeting during the board's student- and staff-focused agenda items.
