Whitehall elementary posts high MAP percentiles; district to start ELA materials review before 2027

District staff reported above-average winter MAP math and reading percentiles in several grades and said the ELA contract ('Wonders') expires in spring 2027; the district will begin a year-long review of ELA materials and host an OPI liaison for science of reading work.
District staff shared assessment results and curriculum plans for the coming year. The presenter said, "Through 4 of our 6th grade levels, 4 of them were at or exceeding national norms in 71st, 72nd, 62nd, and 69th percentile," and added that two classes fell short (57th and 54th percentiles in ELA). The presenter noted MAP is a nationally normed measure and the district's target percentile.
School leaders also told trustees they will begin a year-long review of ELA instructional materials because the current Wonders contract expires in spring 2027; the goal is to adopt new materials before Christmas 2026 to allow ordering and transition time. Board members and staff highlighted that Whitehall Elementary has been selected as a lighthouse district for the science of reading; Patty Montgomery, an OPI liaison, will visit classrooms to help map effective practices and areas for improvement that might be replicated in other districts.
