Eatontown council approves application for NJDOT road-improvement funds for Grant and Buttonwood avenues

The council approved a resolution (145-2026) authorizing submission of an electronic grant application to the New Jersey Department of Transportation for improvements to Grant Avenue and Buttonwood Avenue. The resolution also authorizes the mayor and clerk to sign the grant agreement if the award is made.
Mayor Talerico explained the borough applies each year to NJDOT for road-improvement funding and said Grant Avenue was recommended by the borough administrator because of resident complaints about the road condition. "Every year NJDOT offers funds for road improvements and we apply," he told the council when a resident asked about the grant. The consent agenda motion to adopt Resolution 145-2026 carried on the same roll call that approved the other consent items.
If awarded, the grant would offset the local cost of the street work; the resolution directs the mayor and clerk to execute the grant agreement on behalf of the borough. Staff did not provide a specific construction schedule at the meeting; the mayor indicated routine project steps would follow if and when the county/state award is made.
