Zoning Board backs broad text amendment to zoning chapters covering residential through industrial standards

Franklin Park planning staff told the Zoning Board that amendments to Title 9 Chapters 4–7 will clarify dimensional, design and general standards; the board voted 7–0 on July 8, 2026 to recommend the changes to the Village Board of Trustees.
On July 8, 2026 the Franklin Park Zoning Board of Appeals voted unanimously to recommend a text amendment to Title 9 Chapters 4, 5, 6 and 7 intended to clarify dimensional, design and general standards across residential, commercial, downtown and industrial zoning districts.
Senior Village Planner Rudy Repa presented a PowerPoint explaining the changes and told members the edits "will improve the clarity and usability of Chapters 4, 5, 6 and 7 while establishing reasonable and flexible design expectations for future industrial development." Staff highlighted additions and deletions in the members’ packets and said the amendments align zoning enforcement with the Village’s Comprehensive Plan.
During board discussion members said the proposal satisfied the Findings of Fact and commended staff for condensing and streamlining the code language. Member Frank Grieashamer moved approval; Member Kathy Mennella seconded and the motion passed on a 7–0 roll call vote. Chairman Cwik reminded the petitioner that the ZBA is an advisory body and that final decisions will be made by the Village Board of Trustees.
