The county sheriff asked the court to authorize submitting an application to the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts for the Sheriff's Immigration Law Enforcement Grant Program established by Senate Bill 8. The sheriff described the request as a mechanism to secure up to $100,000 to support personnel, training, equipment and salaries for staff participating in the county's 287(g) program.
"This gives us the ability to the $100,000 that we can use towards personnel, training, equipment, salaries for people that are participants in the 287gs program through the sheriff's office," the sheriff said. A commissioner moved to approve the application and another seconded; the court approved the request by voice vote and the sheriff thanked the court.
