During the public comment period, resident Jace Walls delivered a petition requesting a zoning overlay and the creation of a design review board for the Cahaba Project and provided it to council members. Walls asked the city to formally consider zoning tools and design guidelines to govern the project.
Other residents spoke in the public-comment block. Jason Garner said the city should not get involved in disputes between neighbors and that property owners should resolve design differences among themselves. Brian Jackson noted the Cahaba Project will appear before the Planning and Zoning Commission on June 18 for further consideration. John Platt, speaking on related rezoning concerns, thanked the council for requesting an environmental study and recommended a phase 2 report if warranted.
