The Village Board voted 4-0 to hire Matthew Mahoney as a part-time police officer and Clerk David Griffith administered the oath of office during the July 28 meeting. Deputy Chief Barnett said Mahoney "works FT for the Town of Newburgh" and "comes highly recommended."
In departmental remarks, Deputy Chief Barnett said the police fielded only two calls during the 100th Anniversary events, credited the Town of Montgomery Police Department for traffic support, and reported that the department's bike rodeo gave away 12 bikes and distributed more than 100 helmets. He also said the FLOCK camera system aided in apprehending suspects in a Town of Montgomery ShopRite Plaza robbery.
The hiring and the department reports were recorded as motions and presentations in the minutes; no disciplinary or staffing controversies were recorded.
