Florence board accepts dispatcher resignation, hires two and authorizes academy training

The Florence Board of Mayor and Aldermen accepted the resignation of Dispatcher Taylor Busby effective Jan. 6, 2026, and voted to fill two police-department openings in executive session on Jan. 6.
Chief Brad Burns recommended hiring Luz Elena Macias as a full-time dispatcher at $16.00 per hour starting Jan. 7, 2026, with six months' probation contingent on a successful background check and drug and alcohol testing. The board approved the hire on a recorded roll call, with each recorded member voting Aye.
The board also approved hiring Julious Peyton Warren as a full-time police officer at $21.06 per hour starting Jan. 7, 2026, with the same six-month probation and contingent screenings. At the discretion of Chief Burns, the board authorized sending Officer Julious Peyton Warren to the first available police officer training academy and for the city to pay the registration fee and related costs "as allowed by state law." That motion passed on recorded roll call; all recorded members voted Aye.
The personnel actions were taken during an executive session that the board entered at 6:45 p.m. and left at 7:05 p.m. Mayor Trey Gunn adjourned the meeting at 7:05 p.m.
