The board approved a recommendation to trade in a full-size lease bus return and apply the equity toward purchasing a used minibus suitable for special education, athletic teams and overflow routes.
Director of Transportation and Buildings & Grounds Tom Tiede described the purchase as a cost-effective option that would support special needs routes and extracurricular transportation. The motion to trade in the lease bus and pursue the minibus was made by Megan DuPass and seconded by Darren Spiegel and passed 6–0 with one absence.
Tiede also reported staffing retirements (Mr. Stocker and Mr. Walper) and said replacement hires are planned for July. The district indicated the plan to buy buses off lease where advantageous to reduce long-term costs despite potentially higher short-term maintenance.
