The City of Florence Board voted in executive session Nov. 18 to hire two full‑time employees effective Dec. 1, 2025. On recommendation of Police Chief Brad Burns the board approved hiring Jeffery Smith as a full‑time police officer at $21.06 per hour, pending a successful background check and drug and alcohol testing.
The board also approved, on recommendation of Mayor Trey Gunn, hiring Billy Russell as a water/sewer operator at an annual salary of $95,000.00. Both hires were recorded as Aye votes from Aldermen Mason Herrin, Kyle Martin and Brent Sistrunk; Aldermen John Banks and Brian Grantham were absent. The board had first moved into an executive session at 6:45 p.m. to discuss personnel matters.
