Florence board accepts police officer's resignation after executive session

At a Nov. 12 special meeting the Florence mayor and board held an executive session and unanimously accepted Officer Canyon Bilbro's immediate resignation from the Police Department, following a recommendation from Police Chief Burns. The meeting lasted about five minutes.
Mayor Trey Gunn called a special meeting of the City of Florence to order Nov. 12, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. and announced a quorum. After opening formalities the board considered a personnel matter in the Police Department listed on the meeting agenda.
Alderman Brian Grantham moved, and Alderman Brent Sistrunk seconded, to consider whether the board should go into executive session to discuss the personnel matter. That motion carried unanimously, and the board went into executive session at 5:31 p.m., with a motion to do so moved by Grantham and seconded by Alderman John Banks.
In executive session, and "upon recommendation of Chief Burns," the board moved to accept the resignation of Officer Canyon Bilbro effective immediately. Alderman Grantham made the motion in executive session, Alderman Banks seconded it, and the motion carried with the following recorded votes: Alderman John Banks — Aye; Alderman Brian Grantham — Aye; Alderman Mason Herrin — Aye; Alderman Kyle Martin — Aye; Alderman Brent Sistrunk — Aye. The board returned to regular session at 5:35 p.m., and shortly thereafter a motion to adjourn was passed; the meeting ended at 5:35 p.m.
The minutes record the board acted on Chief Burns' recommendation but do not state reasons for the resignation or any disciplinary findings.
