Principals outline student achievements, testing, and upcoming events

Principal Neaveill told the board about staff development and student milestones. She said staff received breakfast, IXL training, and a book study at the Jan. 2 teacher institute and reported monthly perfect-attendance counts of "September 57, October 55, November 75, and December 74." Neaveill said report cards were sent home Jan. 9, STAR Reading and Math tests were administered, LTR third rotation began Jan. 5, midterms will go home Feb. 6, and staff are preparing for IAR and ISA testing. She also noted upcoming events: a PASS program for grades 1–4 on Jan. 27, the CG Spelling Bee on Feb. 5, dyslexia training for staff on Feb. 13, and a Valentine's Day party on Feb. 13.
Principal Willard reported secondary-school updates, saying a Sangamon Valley CEO student program occurred Jan. 14. He provided performance and activity highlights: "62% of the high school students were on the 1st semester Honor Roll; 53% of the Junior High students were on the 2nd quarter honor roll," and he reported several athletics successes including wins in the Corn Bowl and the wrestling team's Unity Christian Duals consolation championship. Willard also noted an Illinois Youth Survey for all 8th, 10th and 12th graders scheduled for Jan. 26 and an Internet safety training planned for students in January. A blood drive hosted by NHS and Mr. Vogel occurred Jan. 21.
Both principals' reports focused on student achievement, testing timelines and near-term school events that will affect students and staff.
