During the meeting's public comment period, residents and small business owners expressed a mix of support and concern on two related topics: the spring fiscal homeowner repair allocation and the proposed vehicle fee increases. Asim Pollock of ARP Indiana supported the $500,000 homeowner repair allocation and recommended local flexible investment strategies to help households who fall outside federal eligibility. "This investment represents a meaningful, meaningful progress," Pollock said.
Many residents opposed the flat vehicle fee in Proposal 192. A small‑business owner with a fleet said the charge would be crippling and warned businesses could move registrations out of state; another resident urged a temporary tax or a sunset and suggested alternatives such as a hotel or rental‑car tax. Several speakers described the disproportionate effect on seniors and low‑income households. Health‑and‑safety advocates countered that safe, well‑maintained roads reduce crashes and that a stable funding source is needed to address longstanding deferred maintenance.
