Alexis Hatcher appointed to Juvenile Detention Center advisory board

Hatcher told the committee she works directly with youth involved in the child welfare system and often interfaces with public defenders to ensure youth rights are represented. "I work more closely with youth who are involved on the DCS side of things," she said, describing efforts to ensure services are used effectively and to support youth trauma recovery. Council members thanked Hatcher for her experience and several offered to cosponsor the proposal.
Councillors highlighted the board’s role in hearing youth experiences and using data to improve facility services. After brief public-comment reminders and a short question period, a motion to appoint Hatcher carried on a committee voice vote. Hatcher said she hoped to use the position to "further assist youth in making a brighter future for them."
