Michiana discusses water‑system work, EPA project plan and new pump installation

Council member Mike Mumper updated the council on the village water system on Oct. 11. He said village staff have submitted monthly reports to the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) and that daily water testing is being performed by public works staff. Mumper reported that Merritt is drafting a project plan that will go to the EPA for approval and that bids for the EPA‑related portion will follow.
Mumper said hydrant flushing will continue for the next couple of weeks and that "the new pump is ready and waiting to be installed," with staff planning installation in November when residential demand drops and the system can be taken down to one pump. Street Superintendent Rick Reitz confirmed staff support for taking the system offline briefly for installation.
Mumper also noted the village is working with Down to Earth on a new park irrigation system and that another water meeting will be scheduled in November to update residents and stakeholders on EPA submission and bid timelines.
