The board declared various highway and Board of Education equipment surplus and approved a donation of two surplus EMS ambulances to Unicoi County, which lost multiple vehicles in recent floods. Commissioner Stowfield explained the county had previously donated one ambulance and that Unicoi's fleet remained depleted; he said selling the vehicles at auction would yield only about $10,000 and that donating them offered greater emergency assistance.
Commissioners approved the surplus declarations and the donation by roll call. County staff will coordinate transfer logistics with Unicoi County and complete required documentation to effect the donation.
