The Chicago Heights City Council completed multiple routine and omnibus items as part of the May 6 agenda, including approval of minutes, bill runs, and several resolutions recorded as consent or straightforward motions.
Among the items the council approved were Resolution 2026-46 supporting the Illinois America 250 commemoration culminating July 4, 2026; Resolution 2026-47 supporting municipal authority over zoning and housing laws as explained by Corporation Counsel T.J. Somer; and Omnibus Resolution 2026-48 approving hardship license renewals for Rainbow Glass (513 Halsted St.) and Marconi Bakery (212 E. 16th St.), which Somer said would result in $14,707 in tax revenue that otherwise would not have been realized.
The council also approved Resolution 2026-52, a license agreement with 303 State Street, LLC for 1214–1218 Halsted Street to allow the buyer to begin renovations pending Cook County tax-abatement actions; Resolution 2026-54 ratifying final invoices for emergency repairs at 1040 Dixie Highway (Prairie Green) resulting from a water main repair; and Resolution 2026-55 approving settlement of certain civil litigation (case #24 WC 24547) as presented for executive session. The scheduled administration of oaths for newly promoted and appointed police officers was canceled due to scheduling conflicts.
All listed items were approved by roll call with six ayes and one absent (Alderman Brassea), and no public comments were recorded on these matters during the meeting. Staff were directed or noted to follow up as needed on tax abatement timing, contract execution, and settlement documentation.
Actions: Minutes approved (April 15, 2026), bills approved (1st run May 2026), Resolutions 2026-46, 2026-47, 2026-48, 2026-52, 2026-54, and 2026-55 all moved and approved by roll call with the same six-ayes pattern; outcome: approved.
