The City Council approved an extension of the option-to-purchase agreement for the industrial parcel at 600 East Sauk Trail related to DataWatt Energy, LLC. Economic Development Director Jack Hynes told the council the company requested an extension while its studies of the property are completed; the current agreement would have expired June 5, 2026 and the approved extension will expire July 2, 2028.
Jack Hynes explained staff support for the extension and said the additional time would allow DataWatt to finish its due diligence. The motion (Resolution 2026-51) carried unanimously among present aldermen, with Alderman George Brassea absent.
The extension preserves the buyer's option to proceed with purchase after completing environmental and feasibility studies; no new financial terms or guarantee changes were recorded in the meeting minutes.
Actions: Motion to approve Resolution 2026-51 moved by Alderman Sonia Perez and seconded by Alderman Christopher Baikauskas; vote: Ayes: Smith, Perez, Rodgers, Baikauskas, Zaranti, Merrick; Absent: Brassea. Outcome: approved.
