Mazon personnel committee delays across-the-board raises pending budget review

The Village of Mazon Personnel Committee on Jan. 7 opened employee reviews but agreed to hold off on major across-the-board raises until trustees can review the village’s finances. Chairman Roland Tondini said the budget position should be clear before deciding how much employees would receive in increases.
Trustee J. Marques emphasized the need for better fiscal data, telling the committee that bill lists have ranged "anywhere from $20,000-$50,000 per bill list" and asking Clerk Melanie Murphy to provide a current fiscal-year report. Marques warned that, given rising operating costs and the expense of an upcoming water treatment plant, trustees should project future expenses before committing to pay increases. The committee agreed to involve the finance committee and to reconvene on the issue after receiving budget detail.
