Michiana council adopts 2025–26 budget after amendment; water budget shows overage

The Village of Michiana council on June 13 amended several departments in the 2024–25 general fund and then adopted the 2025–26 budget in a 5–0 vote. Councilor Tim McCarthy moved the amendment and the final adoption; Nancy Thill seconded the adoption motion.
Tim McCarthy said the "General Budget as whole including all departments was under budget by $32,899," and council recorded a total overage across certain departments of $52,660. The water budget was noted as being over by $36,976.54, a difference council members said stems from higher water usage and ongoing project expenses. Councilor Mike Mumper announced a water meeting with Merritt on June 20 to push forward a bid package for the water project, which he said has been "dragging on" and needs acceleration.
Councilors discussed funding implications briefly but took no separate roll-call votes beyond the budget adoption. The adoption carries the budget into effect for the fiscal year beginning 2025 and assigns routine administrative follow-up to staff to track departmental overages and water fund reconciliation.
