Michiana to remove recycling toters from beach stops after contamination; volunteers, inmates to assist cleanup

Brian Cassidy told the council that the village will remove recycling toters from beach stops after garbage was repeatedly placed in them; residents were asked to take recyclables home. Cassidy said new stickers, labeled with beach-stop numbers, will be added to trash toters to help locate missing units and deter theft.
Cassidy and Public Works staff also said inmate crews are scheduled to assist with beach cleanup at the end of April and that planters will be placed during the first week of May. The village continues to recruit volunteers and had only Stop 37 left to be adopted for the season.
