Lanark officials report lead exposure investigation, confrontational resident incident and meter compliance enforcement

Maintenance Manager Jason Alvarado told the council that a foster child tested with elevated lead levels. Staff inspected the residence and found mostly galvanized plumbing with some plastic and copper service lines; the matter was escalated to the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and the Carroll County Health Department for in-depth testing. Initial assessment recorded in the meeting suggested the source may be within the residence rather than the municipal water system, and staff agreed to pause intrusive work (such as digging) until health authorities conclude testing.
Council also heard an account of a resident who became confrontational and used profane language toward staff after a private-property tree removal; police leadership advised staff to disengage in such incidents and consider requesting police standby for future similar situations. Separately, staff said a business owner is resisting installation of a required water meter; staff noted the requirement is supported by city ordinance and will proceed with formal communications to enforce compliance.
