Cortland annexes 80.33 acres tied to SolarStone project, 5–1 vote

The Board of Trustees approved Ordinance No. 2026-06 on April 27 to annex 80.33 acres (PINS 09-27-100-002 and 09-27-300-004) into the Town of Cortland. Attorney Kevin Buick told trustees annexation was necessary to avoid complications and to validate the special-use permit already approved for SolarStone Partners.
The annexation ordinance names the landowners as James E. Walter (as trustee of the James E. Walter Trust dated Nov. 13, 2024) and James R. Walter. Trustee Corson moved to approve the annexation and Trustee Stone seconded. The roll-call vote was Yeas: Stone, Siewierski, Corson, Olson, Haier; Nay: Fioretto. The motion carried and the annexation was recorded as Ord. No. 2026-06.
Attorney Buick had earlier noted a scrivener's error in the ordinance paperwork and asked that references to "John E. Walters" or "John R. Walters" be corrected to "James E. Walters" or "James R. Walters" before final recording. The board tasked staff to complete the paperwork corrections so the special-use permit could be implemented.
