Highway superintendent reports heavy winter use of sand and trouble getting dry salt

Highway Superintendent Jonathan Fish told the Town Board Feb. 20, 2025 that crews used an excessive amount of sand and salt this winter during several "inch storms," and that the town had difficulty securing salt supplies. Fish said the highway crew had to borrow salt from DOT and Newcomb and that the salt they are receiving is "coming soaking wet." He also told the board that potholes near properties owned or associated with Daniel Palmer and Tom Kelly have been reported and that the highway building (where the grader and coal patch are stored) needs heat.
Fish said crews have been busy "chasing storm" calls and helping with trails. The board did not take any immediate funding action during the report; the comments were recorded as part of the Highway Superintendent's report.
