Highway superintendent reports deputy appointment and multiple equipment requests

Highway Superintendent Billy Sutphin told the Milford Town Board on Jan. 15 that Steven Garlick has been appointed Deputy Superintendent, effective immediately. Sutphin outlined several equipment needs intended to improve winter operations and material handling.
Sutphin said the department needs a 14-foot bed for the freight-liner and is looking at options out of state. He also said he is searching for a side-wing for the small truck for 2026 (2025 if available). To handle sand sorting more efficiently, he plans to rent a Grizzly from Beislers for about $1,500 a month and asked the board’s permission to purchase one outright if the cost is under $10,000. Sutphin also requested a $5,000 Amazon credit card to capture potential savings; Supervisor Casey Eckler said he was not comfortable issuing a credit card, and Council Member Kristen Velasco said she is working to obtain a business account with a line of credit at Amazon to address procurement needs.
The board gave conditional direction that Sutphin may purchase a Grizzly if it is found for under $10,000; other purchases and account arrangements will require further follow-up. Sutphin also described plow options for roads at the lake and on Kelly Corners Road, saying equipment selection will be based on road characteristics.
