Lansing committee sets May target to complete American Discovery Trail Town application

The American Discovery Trail Society (ADTS) Trail Town Advisory Committee met Jan. 13, 2026, and set a timeline to complete Lansing’s Trail Town application by the committee’s May meeting, after which committee member John W. Wilson will finalize and submit the application to the ADTS for review. Ders Anderson, the ADT Northern Illinois State Coordinator, reviewed the ADTS mission and the application process and said the committee must meet at least two of ADTS’s requirements to qualify.
The requirements Anderson outlined include providing amenities for trail users, hosting an annual trail-related event, having a trail-related educational or service-learning program in local schools, or including the ADT route in land-use or trail ordinances or guidelines. Committee members discussed pursuing multiple items to strengthen Lansing’s application, and agreed to return to the topic with program proposals at the May meeting.
