Council approves furlough for Officer Marshall; police chief flags radio replacements and staffing costs

Alderperson Greg Gaz moved and Alderperson Todd Lafrenz seconded a motion to approve the furlough of Officer Marshall starting April 24, 2026, with the city continuing to pay his health-care coverage through June 30, 2026; the motion carried with alderpersons Hetherington, Gaz, Slayton, Cull and Lafrenz voting yea.
Police Chief Kenton Oliver addressed an allegation about one of the department's vehicles, saying the City does not own the type of vehicle described in that allegation. He said he is considering promoting a part-time officer to full-time but is weighing the financial impact. Chief Oliver also reported the department’s portable radios currently in use will expire in April 2027 and that he is exploring affordable replacement options.
