City outreach team urges residents to prepare for SNAP changes taking effect July 1

Tinker Martin, program manager for compliance, community outreach and food access at the Office of Public Health & Safety, told the meeting that several benefit rules will change July 1 and urged community providers to get ahead of questions residents may raise. "If you're a able-bodied worker and you have, you don't have children, over the under the age of 14, you can lose benefit," Martin said, and added that having more than $3,000 in savings can also impact eligibility for some households.
Martin described an outreach schedule that includes seven short informational videos to run on Channel 16 and the office's YouTube page, multiple July events and flyers, and direct requests for partner organizations to host vendor tables at outreach sessions. He encouraged attendees to open mail they receive from state or federal agencies and to bring confusing notices to local providers for assistance.
