Congressman Carson aide highlights transportation funding, rail-safety changes and VA research restoration

He said the surface transportation authorization contained several priorities negotiated in committee, citing large allocations for non-motorized infrastructure and transit: "There were several other commit, amendments that we weren't able to get passed, but overall, we're very happy with where the bill ended up... $8,300,000,000 for pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure around the country, $64,000,000,000 for Amtrak, another $87,500,000,000 for transit funding overall," Bocknick said.
Bocknick also described a rail-safety amendment prompted by the East Palestine derailment and an amendment to prohibit federal funding to agencies that target motorcyclists. He noted restored funding for a VA medical prosthetic research program described in the meeting as returning to roughly $994 million. He closed by promoting a job-and-resource fair (date updated to Aug. 12) and offered to provide flyers and follow-up contact information for attendees who wanted details on how federal dollars might flow locally.
