The Northern Humboldt Union High School District Governing Board approved a new employment agreement for Superintendent Roger Macdonald on Sept. 9, 2025, following a split vote. The motion to approve the Superintendent's Employment Agreement and salary schedule passed 3-1-1; Trustee Jamie Bush voted no and Trustee Cedric Aaron Jr. was absent.
Board President Natalie Giannini read the oral summary of proposed salary and fringe benefits before the vote. Giannini described the financial terms, saying, "The Superintendent's shall be placed on Step 9 of the Superintendent's Salary Schedule, reflecting a salary of $213,017.39 for 25-26." The contract package also includes a $1,500-per-year stipend for a master's degree, a $500-per-month automobile allowance, a $100-per-month cell-phone allowance, retiree medical benefits conditioned on at least 10 years of service, and a $7,500 early-notification incentive if the superintendent notifies the board of intent to leave by Dec. 1 of the school year.
The board heard public comments prior to the vote; speakers recorded included Emily Silveira and Jacob Godinez. The motion was moved by Trustee Torie Moulton and seconded by Trustee Christine Yannone. The board recorded the outcome as "Motion carried, 3-1-1." The approval finalizes the superintendent's contract terms for the coming school year and places the board on record with the salary and benefit commitments contained in the agreement.
