Police Chief Brian Lamphere, who began in the role on June 15, told the Committee of the Whole on June 23 that the Police Station “is being remodeled and reorganized” and presented a list of federal and state grant opportunities the department plans to pursue. He identified potential programs including the Bullet Proof Vest Grant, the COPS Hiring Program, COPS in School Program and an Organized Retail Crime Grant Program.
Trustee Brandon Smith drafted a policy update for the Board’s review that would move the grant-application deadline to March 15, retain an April 1 approval date and schedule grant payouts in May. The proposed ordinance language would require organizations that receive grants to report back on how they used the funds and would clarify eligibility where private property and public property intersect. Lamphere’s briefing and Smith’s policy draft were presented for Board consideration; no final vote on the ordinance changes was recorded at the meeting.
