The Town of Moira Board on Oct. 8 adopted Resolution #154-2024 to eliminate one elected Town Justice position, reducing the court from two justices to a single justice. The board voted 5–0 on a roll call (Trimm Aye, Snyder Aye, Deuyour Aye, Robinson Aye, Niles Aye). The resolution cites comparisons with similar Franklin County towns and finds the current caseload consistent with a single justice.
Under the resolution the eliminated justice position would have terminated at the end of the current term (Dec. 31, 2024); the action was taken pursuant to New York Town Law Section 60-a(2) and is subject to permissive referendum under Town Law Article 7, Sections 90–94. Town Clerk Amanda M. Dishaw was authorized to publish notice of the resolution in the official newspaper and to post it on the Town website within ten days. The board gave final adoption by unanimous vote.
