The Town of Montour Town Board on Nov. 7, 2024 adopted Local Law #001 to override the tax levy limit for Fiscal Year 2025 under General Municipal Law §3‑c. The board voted 4–0 to close the hearing and adopt the law; the measure takes effect immediately upon filing with the New York State Secretary of State.
The local law states the town board may adopt a budget “that requires a real property tax levy in excess of the amount otherwise proscribed in General Municipal Law §3‑c,” and cites subdivision 5 of that statute as its authority. No members of the public spoke during the hearing. The adoption was recorded as Resolution #63.
The override applies to town purposes, fire protection districts and other special or improvement districts governed by the board for the 2025 fiscal year. The board’s action clears a path for the FY2025 budget that the board subsequently adopted, which includes higher tax-levy amounts in several funds. The town clerk will file the local law with the Secretary of State as required.
