Staff recommends stronger permit enforcement, ADA inspections for sidewalk reimbursements

Brian Nott outlined concerns with current permit enforcement and proposed that Fehr-Graham could assist with enforcement and verification of work performed under Village permits. Nott noted that permit fees in Lena are lower than in other communities and that raising fees could fund more thorough reviews. "Nott explained permit fees in Lena are much lower than other communities, and raising them would allow for the Village to better afford review of permitted work," the minutes record.
Board member Dean Rood observed that other inspectors use photographs to verify compliance and there was discussion about follow-up on utility companies' work. Joe Hallstrom noted his experience with TIF reimbursements that required verification before payment. The Committee discussed requiring ADA-compliant inspections before reimbursement for sidewalk work and clarifying responsibility depending on whether a route is Village, County or State right-of-way.
