Council approves one-year stewardship contract for butterfly garden capped at $5,000

The Village of Michiana Council approved a one-year stewardship contract with Pizzo Stewardship to maintain the village pollinator (butterfly) garden in 2025.
Beth Denton, Pizzo Stewardship territory manager, told the council that the final erosion blanket installation had been completed and that Pizzo’s proposed services for 2025 would include invasive and non‑native vegetation control (by hand-pulling, brush cutting, mowing or treatment as needed), seed collection and dispersal to promote native plants, and periodic site maintenance from April through November. The contract includes time, travel and supplies and was described to the council as a one-year agreement that could be revisited for 2026.
Council member Mike Botelho moved to approve the contract “not to exceed $5,000,” a motion Nancy Thill seconded; the council approved it by roll call vote 5–0. The council also reviewed photos of the completed erosion blanket and discussed coordinating tree removals near the garden with public works.
