During the Finance Committee meeting, the panel approved entering executive session to discuss litigation relative to Case #39658 (Division B, 23rd JDC). After returning to regular session, the committee approved accepting outside counsel's recommendation to hire additional outside counsel for the case once a contract is executed. Committee member Michael Dias moved the actions; they were adopted unanimously.
The committee also approved a deviation to send a letter from the President to the Department of the Treasury authorizing the President and Secretary-Treasurer to serve as authorized officials for the RESTORE Act. Additionally, the jury authorized the Secretary-Treasurer to sign as backup for the Parish Manager on single-vendor contracts not to exceed $30,000 in the manager's absence. The committee sought public comment on deviations; none were received after three calls.
