Superintendent reports summer programs, campus improvements and registration counts ahead of Aug. 25 staff return

Superintendent Dr. David L. Russo told the Board the District "just wrapped up another successful edition of our SD74 Summer Adventures program," crediting staff for five weeks of programming. He reported that most summer campus improvements are on schedule: HVAC work at Todd Hall is nearly complete, Rutledge Hall corridor flooring and courtyard improvements are in final stages, and Lincoln Hall interior courtyard panel work is set to begin the following week. An exterior door project at Rutledge Hall is delayed and will be completed on weekends after school starts.
Russo gave the calendar for the start of the school year: staff return Monday, Aug. 25, 2025; grades 1–8 will have their first full day Wednesday, Aug. 27; Pre-K and kindergarten families will receive separate scheduling communications. He also said new staff orientation will be Aug. 20–21 and the Opening Day Institute will be Aug. 25. The minutes record registration totals: 1,148 total registrations in various stages, including 1,011 re-registrations (821 approved) and 137 new registrations; the district intends to notify families of teacher assignments the following week.
The Board was invited to attend orientation and Opening Day events. The updates were delivered as part of the Superintendent’s administrative report and require no immediate board action.
