Lena board approves enterprise-zone resolution and ordinance to preserve grocery-tax share

On unanimous votes the board approved Resolution 25-104 amending the intergovernmental agreement for the enterprise zone and passed Ordinance 25-008 to implement the change. The resolution passed on a motion by Christin Keeffer and second by Brandon Smith; the ordinance passed on a motion by Brandon Smith and second by Christin Keeffer; both were recorded as "all aye."
Village Attorney Tom Green told the board “an ordinance is now required to maintain the Village's portion of sales tax,” adding that the change is intended to preserve the Village’s existing allocation rather than add or increase taxes. President Steve Buss emphasized the measure would not raise taxes, saying the ordinance “would keep everything the same.” The attorney noted the ordinance would need to be adopted before Oct. 1 to be effective Jan. 21, 2026.
