Zoning board grants one-year extension for 29 Highland Ave variance

The Borough of Chatham Board of Adjustment voted Aug. 28 to grant a one-year extension for the variance on 29 Highland Ave, moving the expiration to Dec. 28, 2024. Applicant Matthew Corelli of 29 Highland Ave told the board that a 20-foot retaining wall and related stability issues lengthened the renovation timeline and that the project team plans to use helical piles rather than remove the wall.
Corelli described the decision to delay starting heavy work until the new support approach was finalized and told the board he expects permit submissions to be completed before the extension date. "The conclusion that we've come to is that we're gonna use high helical piles... which will allow the retaining wall to remain stable and minimize the length of the project," he said. Board members discussed frost-season timing and typical extension practice and then granted the extension by voice/roll call.
