LaSalle, Parkview report slight enrollment drops; schools highlight reading incentives and extracurriculars

Administrators reported a slight drop in enrollment at LaSalle Elementary (269 students) and at Parkview School (179 students) during the Jan. 13 meeting.
Staff highlighted recent and upcoming activities: LaSalle's Penny Tree raised $1,000 for hat and glove donations and the Bike for Books incentive recorded a milestone of 960 books read, noted by Mr. Chris Reed of the Masonic Lodge. Parkview will participate in Book Blast with a launch party on April 8; participation is optional but every student will receive at least one free book. Scholastic Bowl resumed with its first practice Jan. 13 and Nichols Lodge is sponsoring a bike and helmet giveaway through Feb. 27.
Mr. Yocum requested 8th grade graduation be held Thursday, May 14 at 6:30 p.m. in the East Peoria Community High School gymnasium; the Board will consider scheduling and logistics at a future meeting.
