Superintendent flags Safe School for All Act deadline and routine building inspections
Summary
Superintendent Johnson told the Board new Safe School for All Act duties require a policy and procedures by July 1, 2026 (Public Act 104-0288). He also reported routine inspections of fire protection systems and backflow preventers at LaSalle and Parkview with no deficiencies; some relief valves require parts and work is scheduled Jan. 19 and boiler inspections Jan. 30.
Superintendent Mr. Johnson informed the Board that new requirements under the Safe School for All Act—specifically the statutory changes enacted as Public Act 104-0288—require the district to adopt a policy and develop procedures for the review and authorization of law-enforcement requests to enter school facilities by July 1, 2026.
Mr. Johnson also reported on building maintenance and safety checks: water-based fire protection systems at LaSalle Elementary and Parkview School were inspected Dec. 22, 2025, with no deficiencies noted. Parkview's backflow preventer had a failing relief valve that will be cleaned and fitted with a new gasket; LaSalle's backflow needs two new relief valves installed and work is scheduled for Jan. 19, 2026. Boiler inspections at both schools are scheduled for Jan. 30, 2026 from 8 a.m. to noon.
The Board was advised to plan for policy adoption to meet the July deadline and to expect additional monitoring and follow-up from ROE #53 and ISBE.
