Board members heard multiple student-program and community-engagement updates during the Nov. 18 meeting.
Mr. Yocum said 5th and 6th graders are preparing for a JA BizTown simulation on Dec. 11 where students will take jobs, handle money and practice civic responsibilities. Veterans Day activities were reported: seven veterans plus two veteran staff attended the Parkview breakfast and assembly on Nov. 11; Mr. Thompson reported 36 veterans attended LaSalle's observance the same day. The board also learned that as of Nov. 18 the canned food drive had collected 2,601 items and the Parkview Student Council will deliver donations to the food pantry on Nov. 25.
The board approved several student-support items: after-school tutoring enrollment rose to 40 students (from 37); 103 students earned an attendance incentive scheduled for Nov. 21; the board approved after-school detention for 3rd–4th graders (15–20 minutes supervised by a teacher). The Athletic Fundraiser had raised $630 to date. The board agreed to move LaSalle Elementary's Dec. 11 Christmas concert to Parkview's gym to improve seating and visibility.
