After ISBE protest, North Shore SD 112 approves one-year emergency food-service contract with OrganicLife

The North Shore School District 112 Board on Aug. 19 approved a one-year emergency food-service agreement with OrganicLife after the Illinois State Board of Education granted a protest and directed the district to terminate its previously approved contract with Quest Food Service. Superintendent Dr. Michael Lubelfeld told the Board he has authorized an independent investigation into the district’s food-service request-for-proposals process.
Board members voted unanimously to approve Resolution 250819e authorizing emergency expenditure of funds and the contract with OrganicLife. The administration said OrganicLife represented it could provide food service for the 2025–26 school year; Edgewood and Ravinia will be added to the district food-service program immediately and menus will be shared with families. The Board cited regulatory authority permitting emergency contract awards when required by ISBE rulings and when approved by three-fourths of board members.
