Public raises concerns about split upland-bird limits and nonresident pressure; CAB supports regulation packet

During the upland game and furbearer regulation review, public commenter Mike Stevens urged the CAB to recommend eliminating a split bag limit (separate quotas for huns and chukar) in Elko County, saying the current split encourages nonresident pressure and social conflict on private and public lands.
"I'm gonna request that possibly, if you guys could recommend make a recommendation of getting rid of the split limit," Mike Stevens said, describing social issues he attributed to an influx of nonresident bird hunters and concerns about gates left open on private property. CAB members acknowledged the social concerns but noted biological data on bird numbers will shape state-level decisions; NDOW staff said it is too early in the season to predict population effects and that Elko and Humboldt counties carry most of the state’s huns.
The CAB considered making no position on some contested items and took support or no-position stances where appropriate. The group voted to support the commission regulation packet as presented and encouraged public comment at the upcoming commission meeting.
